Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli; Sahbaye Hajj: God's Hospitality

The Hospitality of the Beloved

"In His realm, only broken-heartedness is meant to be bought, and nothing else!"

"In His realm, only broken-heartedness is meant to be bought, and nothing else!"

It is true that whoever goes to the land of Mecca and the land of Divine Revelation is considered to be the guest of God, but God's guests are of two types: One type is a guest with whom God interacts, meaning that He both accepts them as a guest and accepts their hospitality [in a mutual manner]. And there are some others as [the other type of the] guests whom there is no interaction between them and God. The Holy Divine Essence - both to His friend (Ibrahim) and to His Beloved (Mohammad, peace and blessings be upon them) - said:

 ﴿وَ أَذِّنْ فِي النَّاسِ بِالْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجالاً وَ عَلي‏ كُلِّ ضامِرٍ يَأْتينَ مِنْ كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَميقٍ﴾;

 "And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass" [Quran 22:27]. Why do you have to invite them? Because they are My special guests (one) and they are My special hosts (two); I will be a guest of theirs.

If it is said that the pilgrim and the 'umrah performer are "the guests of the Merciful", the Holy Divine Essence said: ﴿أَنَا عِنْدَ الْمُنْكَسِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُم‏﴾; "I am with the one whose heart is broken." That human being with a broken heart who came as "رِجالاً" (on foot) and "وَ عَلي‏ كُلِّ ضامِرٍ", (on a lean camel; riding animals or any sorts of vehicles) that destitute and brokenhearted person, is My host, and I accept his hospitality. If the pilgrim and the 'umrah performer consider their own weakness and poverty and say, "I am the poor, destitute, and seeking refuge servant," they can engage in a reciprocal interaction with God, so that they become both God's guest and the host of the Divine! Although in both cases, they are God's guests; when they are God's guests, they are God's guests, and when they are God's hosts, they are still God's guests, because they have received this hospitality from the Holy Divine Essence, as said:

 ﴿اللّهمّ مَا بِنَا مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ فَمِنْك‏﴾.

"O Allah, whatever blessing we have, it is from You."
